Phil Andrews - Middlesex Valley (Marcus Whitman)   High School - Player/Coach

Phil Andrews: Phil was a standout performer at Middlesex Valley High School (now Marcus Whitman). He was a two–time Finger Lakes League All Star (1960, 1961). He scored over 1,000 career points, with a single game school record of 47. On the collegiate level Phil was an All-Lone Star Conference honoree at East Texas State University. He coached at Canandaigua Academy from 1969-1983. His Braves won the Section V Class AA Championship in 1977 and Phil was honored as Finger Lakes Coach of the Year in 1982.

Gene   Cairo - Rochester East High / Batavia - Asst. Coach

Gene Cairo: Career assistant coach at Rochester East High School and Batavia High School. Gene was a staff member of ten Section V Championship teams. His teams reached the NYSPHSSAA Final Four six times. Gene founded the Rochester Area Players (RAP) AAU program, the largest program of its kind in New York   State. In 2010 Gene was honored with the “Living Legends Award” for his   contributions to Rochester area youth.

Jim Cox - Rush-Henrietta Roth/Sperry - Coach

Jim   Cox: A longtime Monroe County coaching legend at Rush Henrietta, Jim amassed a career record of 397 wins and 146 losses. His teams captured seven Monroe County League Championships and three Section V Championships. His 1980 RH Roth squad advanced to the NYSPHSAA finals. He was recognized as Section V Coach of the Year in 1979 and 1987 and NYSPHSAA Coach of the Year in 1985.   Jim also coached the Rush Henrietta Lacrosse team to two Section V Championships (1978, 1983). He is a member of the Frontier Field Walk of Fame and the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Connors and Ferris L.L.P.: The legal firm of Connors and Ferris has been a sponsor of Section V Basketball since 2001. Partners Greg Connors and Tom Ferris are former Section V athletes, who have given unparalleled support to local athletes. They were the inaugural sponsors of the Martin Luther King Classic.   As time has progressed they have expanded their commitment to Section V Basketball and also support Section V Football through their sponsorship of the Connors and Ferris Bowl.

Kay Jones - Bloomfield Central High School - Player

Kay Jones: A four year member of the Bloomfield Central Varsity, Kay carried the Bombers to 40 consecutive victories and Section V Class C championships in 1976 and 1977. She earned tournament MVP honors each year. She averaged 15.7 points per game over her career.

Joe Marchese - McQuaid Jesuit High School - Coach

Joe Marchese: Led McQuaid Jesuit High School to three NYSPHSAA Championships (1988, 1997 and 2003) and an unprecedented eight Section V Championships (1987, 1988, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 2002 and 2003). Joe amassed a career record of 306 and 142. He was named the NYSPHSAA Basketball Coach of the Year in 2003 and AGR Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003.
 

John Smith - Rush-Henrietta Sperry High School - Player

John Smith: John was the dominant post player in Section V in the early ‘70s. A unanimous three-time All Monroe County selection, John led RH to the 1972   Class AA Sectional Championship earning tournament MVP honors. He tallied career totals of 1,468 points, 1168 rebounds and 375 blocked shots. He was named to the Top 100 Best High School Players by Street and Smith magazine and was awarded an athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama.
 

Jonathan Stone - Brighton Central High School - Player

Jonathan Stone: A multitalented post player, Jonathan was a 1988 graduate of Brighton   High School. At Brighton Jonathan earned All County and AGR honors while leading Monroe County in scoring, including a single game high of 41 points. On the collegiate level, Jonathan starred at Colgate University. He was a three time team MVP and a Patriot League All-Star. He played professionally in Europe for five years. Jonathan is currently the Head Basketball Coach at the Hun School of Princeton. In 2007 he guided the Raiders to the New Jersey State Championship.

Kara Tudman (Walker) - Spencerport Central High School - Player

Kara Tudman (Walker): A graduate of Spencerport Central, Kara was an AGR First Team honoree in 1994. She netted 1,197 points and hauled in 1,137 rebounds in her career. She was also a Section V high jump champion. She attended UMass on an athletic scholarship. She led UMass to NCAA Tournament berths in her sophomore and senior seasons.

Carmen Urzetta - IAABO Board 60 - Official

Carmen   Urzetta: A veteran official of 40 years (1966 -2006), as a member of IAABO Board 60. Carmen worked over 25 Section V Championship Finals in his career as well as seven NYSPHSAA Final Four appearances. Carmen officiated on all levels of NCAA Basketball, including Division II and Division III NCAA Tournament games. He also coached varsity basketball at Bishop Kearney and   East Rochester. He was a member of East Rochester’s 1959 Section V Class AA Championship team.
 

Christina Volpe - Notre Dame-Batavia High School - Player

Christina Volpe: A prolific scorer, Christina led Notre Dame-Batavia to the 1999 NYSPHSAA and Federation Class D Championships, earning tournament MVP honors. For her career she scored a school record 2359 points and amassed over 1400 rebounds. Christina was a First Team AGR selection her junior and senior seasons and was honored in 1999 by the NYS Sportswriters as the Class D “Player of the Year.”
 

Tony Webster - Rochester East High School - Player

Tony Webster: A versatile athlete Tony was an AGR honoree in football and basketball in the 1977-1978 school year. He led Rochester East High School to the 1978 Section V Class AAA Championship. A graduate of the University of Hawaii, Tony was named an   Associated Press All American in his senior season. He played professionally in New Zealand for ten years. Tony was the head coach of the New Zealand under 17 team in 2010–2011 that won a silver medal at the FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament in New Caledonia.
